A wonderful dal recipe with Green Gram / Pesara Pappu / Mung Beans with spices, onion & tomatoes. It’s so healthy and delicious side dish with roti/ Chapathi/ Plain piping hot white rice ๐

Today, I prepared South Indian style dal variety with beautiful mung beans, I hope you like it
Let’s start with Ingredients and follows Procedure
Ingredients:
- Green Gram / Pesearapappu – 120 gms – wash & soak 15 mins
- Onion – ย 1 medium – 1 cup – diced
- Tomatoes – 2 medium – finely chopped
- Red chilly powder – 1 tsp
- Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
- Salt – 2 tsp
- Coriander powder – 1 tsp
- Green chillies – 2 – chopped
- Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
- Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
- Curry leaves – 8
- Garlic cloves – peeled off – chopped
- Oil – 1 tb sp
Procedure:
Pre-preparation:
- Wash green gram twice under running water
- Soak them in a bowl for 15 mins
- Add them in pressure cooker with 1/2 tsp salt, 400 ml water & 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
- Let it cook over medium heat and turnoff heat after 3 whistles
- Let the pressure goes off…Open lid and keep it aside
Process of making Green Gram dal:
- Heat sauce pan over medium heat
- Add oil, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves and garlic
- Saute a minute and add chopped onion, green chillies
- Saute 3 mins and add tomatoes
- Mix well & cover with lid..ย Cook 5 mins and addย salt, red chilly powder, coriander powder and turmeric powder
- Mix well and cover with lid for 2 mins
- Mix well and add cooked green gram along with tamarind extract and 500 ml water
- Mix well and cook on low to medium heat for 5 mins
- Turn off heat and serve with roti / rice ๐

Note:
- You can use any lentils instead of green gram
- I used canola oil, you can use any cooking oil like sunflower oil/ vegetable oil

My family fav dish ramya we have it with rice.I pressure cook all ingredients along with green gram and then do tempering. Will try ur method.
