Breakfast Recipe: Cracked wheat upma

The simplest breakfast recipe is upma, You can define upma in so many ways they’re many to discuss but today I have chosen a thick variety of wheat rava which is called cracked wheat rava the granule is bigger than broken wheat or the rava which we use regularly. Make sure the rava variety of the type which you’re going to use to make this delicious recipe. The cracked wheat easily available in all stores or you can buy online as well. Why do I prepare this breakfast in the pressure cooker the only reason behind it is, it takes lesser time than it was cooked in the pan with lid. Because I have tried it in both ways and I chose to make it in the cooker.
Let’s start with ingredients and follows the procedure
Ingredients:
- Cracked wheat – 1 cup – 160 grams
- Water – 3 cups
- Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
- Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
- Urad dal – 1 tbsp
- chana dal – 1 tbsp
- Green chili – 1 – chopped
- Curry leaves – 8
- Onion – 1 – sliced
- Carrot – 1- peeled off & finely chopped
- Beans – 8 – finely chopped
- Salt – 1/2 tsp ( adjust according to your taste )
- Oil – 2 tbsp
- Coriander leaves – chopped – 2tbsp
Procedure:
- Put a pressure cooker on a medium heated burner
- Add oil, mustard and cumin seeds then saute half a minute or till they splutter
- Then add urad and chana dal and saute till light brown
- Next goes in green chili and curry leaves, just saute
- Add onion and saute 2 mins
- Then add chopped carrot and beans, saute 2 mins
- Next add water, salt, and coriander leaves. Combine well and bring water to a boil
- Finally, add cracked wheat or a thick variety of gohuma rava, mix well and cover with a lid
- Pressure cook for 2 whistles and open lid when pressure released
- Gently mix and serve hot with pappula podi and mango pickle
