Dosa with Kodo millets | Arikela dosa

Breakfast recipe: Kodo Millet Dosa 

Servings: 12-15 dosa’s 

South Indian crepes usually make with rice, dal and few other ingredients but this is healthy, tasty morning breakfast with Kodo millets. Each millets has their own healthy benefits but Kodo millets has more fiber than other millets. It tastes same like rice dosa, important to say because it’s vegan dosa and a must try recipe.

Let’s start with Ingredients and follows Procedure

Duration: 6 hours Soaking time + 15 hours fermentation time + 20 mins Cooking time

Ingredients: 1 cup = 160 grams 

  • Kodo millets/ arikelu – 2 cups
  • Urad dal / Skinless split black gram – 1/2 cup
  • Tapioca pearls / Saggubiyyam – 1/4 cup
  • Methi/ Fenugreek seeds – 1 teaspoon
  • Salt – 1 teaspoon
  • Baking soda – 1/4 teaspoon
  • Water – 600 ml ( to soak )

Procedure:

  • Take a deep bowl, add Kodo millets, urad dal, Methi seeds, Sabudana and wash 6-8 times until you see clear water
  • Add fresh water and soak for 6 hours and blend into fine and smooth batter by adding little water
  • Take out batter in a deep bowl , add salt and baking soda. Combine well and cover the bowl then let it ferment for overnight or 15 hours ( it depends on weather conditions)
  • When the batter fermented well, give it a mix and pour a ladle full of batter on medium- high heated tava, spread it round and apply oil. Cook both sides it becomes crispy and delicious 😋
