Breakfast/ Lunch Recipe: Millets Pongalย

I have viewed for healthy recipes and in search of all I found millets is the best substitute for rice ๐Ÿšย and I knew you have been come across regarding millets and it is the most trending grain in south Indiaย โ˜บ๏ธย and elsewhereย . Not only millets, there are other alternatives such as Ragi, Jowar, Bajra and Chickpea flour also helpful for a perfect healthy life.

Rice is good to intake in less quantity and I love rice so much because itโ€™s our staple food and habitat to eat in our daily lives so I can find enormous food options in India ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณย theyโ€™re healthy, tasty and delicious too. I believe that if we intake food with in certain range everything goes fine and happy ๐Ÿ˜ƒย otherwise it leads to unhealthy ๐Ÿ˜

If youโ€™re following my recipes often I have shared few recipes which are prepared with millets, quinoa, oats, Ragi and soon I will share such more beautiful recipes in future. I hope todayโ€™s post is gonna help you and do try this Millets Pongal and stay healthy ๐Ÿ™‚

Letโ€™s start with Ingredients and follows Procedure

Ingredients: 1 cup = 160 gramsย 

  • Proso millets – 1/2 cup
  • Yellow Moong Dal (dry roasted) – 1/2 cup
  • Water – 4 cups
  • Salt – 1 teaspoon

For tempering:

  • Ghee / clarified butter – 1 Tb sp
  • Cumin seeds – 1 teaspoon
  • Cashew nuts – 15 pieces
  • Cumin powder – 1 teaspoon
  • Black Pepper Powder – 1/2 teaspoon
  • Hing / Asafoetida – 1/4 teaspoon
  • Curry leaves – 15 – chopped

ย Procedure:

  • Add in millets, Moong Dal and water in pressure cooker on medium heat
  • Cook for 2 whistles and then turn off heat
  • When the pressure releases, open lid and gently mix and keep aside
  • On another pan, add in ghee, cumin seeds and cashew nuts. Sautรฉ them 30 secs on medium heat
  • After that, add black pepper powder, cumin powder, Hing, curry leaves. Sautรฉ more 1 minute and make sure donโ€™t burn the cashew nuts, fry till golden brown or roasted well
  • Turn off heat and then transfer it into cooked millets and dal mixture. Add salt and combine well, serve hot to enjoy the taste of millets Pongal ๐Ÿ˜ withย Coconut ๐ŸŒด Chutneyย (๐Ÿ‘ˆ click for chutney recipe)
