Rasam is a kind of savory indian soup we also call it β€˜Charu’ It’s most appealing South Indian food as a side dish, goes well with rice 🍚 and Papad or fryums πŸ˜‹ Rasam can make in different ways as I have shared three delicious Rasam recipes, they’re listed out here πŸ‘‡

I don’t know how many of you know this dish but if you could try this savory Indian soup, I’m sure you’ll definitely love πŸ’—Β it.

Today, I prepared my favorite Rasam made with freshly homemade Rasam Powder or spice mix along with  cooked black eyed beans and tempering. I clearly remember my mom used to make it, I love to have it often and I have shared homemade Rasam Powder link in the below section 😍

Let’s start with Ingredients and Procedure

Ingredients:

  • Black eyed beans/ Alasandalu – Β 60 gms (soaked & cooked )
  • Tomato πŸ…- chopped
  • Coconut oil – 1/2 Tb sp
  • Cumin seeds – 1/2 teaspoon
  • Garlic pods – 5 – chopped
  • Curry leaves – 8 – chopped
  • Kashmiri Dry Red chillies – 2
  • Hing/Asafoetida – 1/8 teaspoon
  • Turmeric Powder – 1/4 teaspoon
  • Rasam Powder Β – 1/2 teaspoon
  • Jaggery – 2 pieces
  • Salt – 1 teaspoon
  • Coriander leaves – 3 tb sp
  • Water – 500 ml

Procedure:

  • Firstly, Soak black eyed beans for 8 hours, wash well and cook for 2 whistles with sufficient water and 1/4 teaspoon of salt
  • Add in oil, cumin seeds, curry leaves, garlic, Red chillies on medium heat vessel, sautΓ© 30 seconds.
  • Then add chopped tomatoes, sautΓ© 2 minutes
  • Next add Hing, turmeric powder, Salt, Jaggery,Β Rasam PowderΒ and sautΓ© a minute or so
  • After that, add cooked black eyed beans and water
  • Cook on medium heat , let it boil it takes around 5-7 minutes
  • Finally Add chopped coriander leaves, mix well and turn off heat
  • Serve hot with piping hot rice and Papad πŸ˜‹
