Side Dish : Dondakaya curry

Most comforting food and delicious curry served as side dish goes well with rice or roti or Chapathi that is ivy gourd curry we call it “Dondakaya curry” any dish made with these beauties are really yummy 😋 and it’s one my favorite vegetable too 😍 . Dondakaya Pachadi / Dondakaya fry are my lovely and tasty food I shared these two recipes in my blog, you can click the above words are in bold for the recipes.
So today I’m introducing one more recipe added in my blog is Dondakaya curry 🍛 which is prepared with basic masala paste and few regular Indian spices. If you like it, please do try my recipes and share your positive thoughts in comments section below.
Let’s start with Ingredients and follows Procedure
Ingredients:
- Dondakayalu/ ivy Gourd/ tindora – 20 – Make X Cut
- Onion – 1 – Roughly Chopped
- Tomato – 1 medium sized – chopped
- Red chilly powder – 1/2 tsp
- Garam Masala Powder – 1/2 tsp
- Salt – 1 tsp
- Turmeric Powder – 1/4 tsp
- Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
- Oil – 3 Tb sp
- Chopped coriander – 1 cup
- Ginger garlic paste – 1 Tb sp
- Water – 750 ml ( to cook n make gravy )
Masala Paste:
- Dry Roasted peanuts – 80 gms- 1/3 cup
- Kashmiri Dry red chillies – 3
- Coriander seeds – 1 Tb sp
- Cumin seeds – 1 teaspoon
- Dry coconut powder – 2 Tb sp (desiccated coconut)
- Tamarind extract – 2 Tb sp
- Water – 300 ml ( to ground paste )
Procedure:
Stir Fry Dondakayalu:
- Add 1 Tb sp oil in pan over medium heat
- Next add Dondakayalu and cover with lid
- Cook all sides for 5 minutes ( flip time to time when it’s done)
- Take out them and keep aside
Prepare masala paste:
- In another pan dry roast cumin seeds, coriander seeds, dry Red chillies for 2 mins
- Then add dry coconut powder, peanuts and sauté a minute. Turn off heat and transfer it onto a plate and let it become cool down
- Add the dry roasted mixture in mixer along with tamarind extract and water ( Adjust consistency)
- Paste grounded well, keep aside
Process of making Dondakaya curry :
- Heat a skillet pan over medium heat, add in 2 Tb sp oil and cumin seeds
- Saute and add ginger garlic paste, Fry till raw smell goes
- Next Add in chopped onion and sauté 2 minutes. Immediately add chopped tomato and cook for more 2 minutes
- Now Add salt, Red chilly Powder, Garam masala powder, turmeric powder and mix well
- Then goes in grounded masala paste, stir fried Dondakayalu and water
- Combine well, cover with lid and cook 20 minutes
- Mix well and check Dondakayalu cooked or not
- Turn off heat and add chopped cilantro and mix
- Serve with rice or roti or Chapathi. Enjoy 😊

I make ivy courd chutney too, but that is a very different recipe from this one. Your version looks so delish – I want to grab a bite straight off the screen! 🙂
