Lunch recipe: Rajma Chawal 🍚

Rajma Chawal is a popular Indian vegetarian dish originated from Punjabi’s 😍 it’s a thick gravy made with red kidney beans, whole Indian spices and ghee. Mostly, this curry is served with rice.

Let’s start with Ingredients and follows Procedure

Ingredients:

  • Rajma – 160 gms
  • Onion – 1 – medium sized – paste – 1 cup
  • Tomatoes – 2 – medium sized – puree – 1 bowl
  • Ginger garlic paste – 1 Tb sp
  • Cumin seeds – 1 teaspoon
  • Red chilly powder – 3/4 teaspoon
  • Cumin powder – 1/2 Tb sp
  • Coriander Powder- 1 teaspoon
  • Garam masala powder – 1/4 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder – 1/8 teaspoon
  • Salt – 2 teaspoon
  • Ghee – 1 Tb sp
  • Cloves – 3
  • Cinnamon stick – 1 inch
  • Bay leaf – 1
  • Black Cardamom – 1
  • Pepper Powder – 1/8 teaspoon
  • Coriander powder – 1 cup – chopped

Procedure:

Prepreparation: Cooking Rajma

  • In a bowl add Rajma and water, soak 12 hours
  • Add soaked beans in pressure cooker along with 1 teaspoon salt and turmeric powder
  • Cook for 3 whistles and turn off heat
  • Let it become cool

Process of making Rajma curry :

  • Put a heavy bottomed deep fry pan over medium heat
  • Add ghee, cumin seeds, cloves, cinnamon stick, bay leaf, black Cardamom and pepper powder. SautΓ© a minute
  • Then add ginger garlic paste, sautΓ© till the color changes to brown
  • Next add onion paste and fry 2 minutes or till raw smell goes off
  • Now, add all spices and sautΓ© a minute
  • Add tomato purΓ©e and sautΓ© 15 minutes or till it becomes together
  • Next add cooked Rajma with 250 ml water
  • Mix well, cover with lid and cook more 15 minutes over medium heat
  • Turn off heat and garnish with chopped coriander leaves
  • Gently mix and serve with piping hot rice 🍚 or roti orΒ Garlic butter Naan
