Sundal is a common snack recipe, we usually prepared at home and will offer to God in temple and gives as Prasadam. Itโ€™s a famous authentic recipe in south India ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณย so easy to make a perfect light snack packed with healthiness and taste too. You can checkout my other Sundal , link given below ๐Ÿ‘‡

Black eyed beans Sundal

Duration: 5 minutes + soaking time 9 hours + cooking time 15 mins

Ingredients:

  • Garbanzo Beans / chickpeas/ Senagallu – 160 gms
  • Green chillies – 2
  • Turmeric Powder – 1/4 tsp
  • Salt – 1 1/2 tsp ( to cook beans and seasoning)
  • Fresh shredded coconut ๐Ÿฅฅ- 2 Tb sp
  • Oil – 1 tsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1/4 tsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • Urad dal / Skinless Black Gram – 1/2 tsp
  • Dry Red chilly – 1
  • Hing / Asafoetida – 1/4 tsp
  • Curry leaves – 5

Procedure:

Cook Garbanzo Beans:

  • Wash Garbanzo Beans twice under running water
  • Add fresh water to soak beans for atleast 9 hours
  • When beans soaked well, cook them in pressure cooker along with (1/2 tsp) salt and pinch of turmeric powder
  • Cook them for 3 whistles and turn off heat
  • Let the pressure goes down, open lid and strain water by using colander
  • Cooked Garbanzo Beans are ready to use in sundal

Coconut Paste:

  • In a mini mixer grinder add shredded coconut and green chillies
  • Blend it to make smooth paste
  • Keep aside

Process of Sundal:

  • Heat a skillet pan or sauce pan over medium heat
  • Add oil, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, urad dal, curry leaves,ย Let them splutter
  • Then add Hing , turmeric powder & dry Red chilly . Mix well
  • Next add grounded coconut paste and sautรฉ a minute
  • Finally add cooked Garbanzo Beans and give it a toss or gently sautรฉ 3-5 minutes
  • Tada! Fresh and healthy Sundal is ready to serve
  • Serving suggestion: you can sprinkle lemon juice and grated carrot or chopped cilantro ( optional ) but Iโ€™m sure itโ€™s definitely a good choice. Do try and enjoy ๐Ÿ˜‰
