Rice variety: Tomato π Β Rice

Rice varieties are essential, unique and quick to make lunch box recipes. These are delicious and everyoneβs favorite dish at home.Β Today, Iβm sharing tremendous, tasty rice with handy ingredients and mixed with amazing Indian spices, theyβre infused in tomato π Β rice. You can pair tomato rice with freshly madeΒ Cucumber RaitaΒ or Onion Tomato π Β Raita.
I have been shared many rice recipes they are tempting and traditional too π. For recipes, I shared links at the end of this post.
Letβs start with Ingredients and follows Procedure
Ingredients:
- Regular rice – Sona masoori – 240 gms
- Tomatoes π Β – 5 – 250 gms
- Onion – Medium sized – sliced
- Mint leaves – 15 – Finely chopped
- Coriander leaves – 1/2 cup – finely chopped
- Cloves – 5
- Cinnamon pieces – 4
- Bay leaves – 2
- Cardamom – 2
- Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
- Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
- Urad dal / Skinless black gram – 1/2 Tb sp
- Chana dal / Bengal gram – 1/2 Tb sp
- Curry leaves – 8
- Turmeric Powder – 1/4 tsp
- Red chilly Powder – 1 tsp
- Salt – 1 1/2 tsp
- Garam Masala Powder – 1/2 tsp
- Green chillies – 3
- Black Pepper corns – 10
- Ginger pieces – 8 – 1/2 Tb sp – chopped
- Garlic cloves – 4 – chopped
- Poppy seeds – 1/2 Tb sp
- Oil – 1 Tb sp
- Butter – 3 Tb sp
- Water – 480 ml ( to cook rice )
Procedure:
Pre-preparation:
Rice:
- Wash Rice and soak them in water for 15 minutes
Masala paste:
- In a mixer add poppy seeds, green chillies, ginger, garlic cloves, pepper corns , 3 cloves & 2 Small cinnamon pieces
- Blend into fine paste and keep aside
Process of making Tomato π Β Rice :
- Heat pan add oil & butter over medium heat
- Add cloves, cinnamon, cardamom, bay leaves, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, urad dal, Bengal gram. Saute 2 minutes
- Next add chopped onion, curry leaves & Saute 2 mins
- Then Add blended paste and saute more 2 minutes
- Next Add chopped coriander and mint leaves, Saute 1 minute.
- Add chopped tomatoes π Β & let it cook 5 minutes then add salt, red chilly powder, Garam masala powder, turmeric powder & cook more 5 minutes.
- Mix well & Turn off heat
- Next Step is add soaked rice in cooking vessel then add prepared tomato masala along with water
- Mix well & cook. If you wish to prepare in pressure cooker then cook for 2 whistles and turn off heat. Tomato rice tastes great in both ways π
- Serve with Raita or potato chips
