Side dish: Spinach Dal/ Palakura Pappu

Iβm introducing a healthy, delightful Indian dal which is a common recipe in every South Indian home π‘Β . This dal is pretty easy to make which contains skinless split pigeon peas we call them βkandipappuβ.
Lentil is an edible pulse & integrated from legumes family each lentil has their own vital role and when lentil combined with spinach or any other leafy vegetables. It enhances the taste of dal, as I love spinach and a must intake in our daily meal.

Health Benefits of spinach:

- Good for cardiovascular, brain & lowers blood pressureΒ
- To retain high iron from spinach, add lemon juice/ vinegar in preparation.
I hope you could try this recipe and enjoy in your daily meal. Letβs start with Ingredients and follows Procedure
Ingredients:
- Spinach – 1 bunch – wash twice & chop
- Red gram/ Skinless Split pigeon peas Β – 120 gms
- Green chillies – 6 – slices
- Tomato – 1 – Ripped – diced
- Onion – 1 – Ripped – diced
- Turmeric Powder – 1/4 tsp
- Salt – 1 1/2 tsp
- Oil – 2 Tb sp
- Mustard seeds – 1/4 tsp
- Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
- Curry leaves – 5
- Garlic cloves – Peeled off & chopped ( or crush by using mortar & pestle)
- Water – 200 ml [approx~]
Procedure:
- Wash red gram lentils twice & Add in pressure cooker along with turmeric powder, chopped green chillies, onion, tomatoes & spinach leaves
- Add 200 ml water & Cook for 2 whistles over medium heat
- Let the pressure goes off. Meanwhile, prepare tempering
- Heat tempering pan, add oil over medium heat
- Thrn add mustard seeds , cumin seeds, garlic cloves and curry leaves
- Saute till garlic changes color to light golden brown
- Turn off heat and keep aside
- Open pressure cooker and mash well
- Next add tempering, salt & tamarind pulp
- Mix well & cook for more 10 minutes over medium heat ( stir occasionally)
- Turn off heat and serve with rice πΒ or roti
