Idly Rava Upma | Quick Breakfast

South Indian Breakfast: Idly Rava Upma

Upma is a kind of thick porridge which is smooth & easy to swallow especially for kids. It’s a quick and easy breakfast from south India which is prepared with semolina/ broken wheat/ Sooji / rava / Oats and also contains onion, tomato, green chillies etc.,

In any Indian home Easy and quick breakfast recipe is Upma, people who like Upma are very less but most of the people who like Upma in different variations if it cooked with spices, Veggies which makes your Upma tasty & delicious πŸ˜‹

I made a tasty Upma with fine Idly Rava which is a healthy dish, you can make when you got bore of eating normal Upma..

Let’s start with ingredients and follows Procedure

Ingredients:

  • Idly Rava – Fine quality – 160 gms
  • Cashew nuts – 10 pieces
  • Turmeric Powder – 1/4 tsp
  • Oil – 3 Tb sb
  • Salt – 1 tsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
  • Urad dal – 1/2 Tb sp
  • Chana dal – 1/2 Tb sp
  • Lemon juice – 1/2 lemon or 1/2 tb sp
  • Water – 400 ml

Finely chopped :

  • White onion – Medium sized – 1
  • Green chilly – 1
  • Ginger – 1/2 Tb sp
  • Curry leaves – 10
  • Coriander leaves – 1 cup

Procedure:

  • Heat deep frying pan over medium heat
  • Add oil, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, urad dal, Chana dal, green chilly, ginger & curry leaves
  • Saute and add cashew nuts
  • Mix well & Add chopped onion
  • Saute a minute and add salt & turmeric powder
  • Mix well and add idly Rava
  • Combine well and saute
  • Next add water, mix well & cover with lid
  • Cook 5-7 mins and open lid, mix well.
  • Turn off heat and add chopped cilantro and lemon juice
  • Mix well & cover with lid.. let it set more 5 minutes
  • Now, Idly rava is ready to serve
  • Serve hot or cold withΒ Coconut πŸ₯₯ ChutneyΒ orΒ Spicy Roasted Split chickpeas powder

Note:

  • Adjust salt and spicy level according to taste
  • Lemon juice is optional
