Hot steamed idly smeared with desi ghee is India’s Healthiest breakfast recipe originated from south India ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณย  ย You can also call it ‘Southeast Asian Cake

To make idly you need only two ingredients, skinless black gram and finely broken rice we call it Idly rava or you can also use parboiled rice instead of idly rava. These ingredients are easily accessible in any Indian grocery store. Soak them in water, make batter, ferment and make idly by using idly cooker

Idly’s can make in 10 minutes if you’re ready with batter and also healthy breakfast because black gram contains minerals and protein, you can serve it with coconut chutney/ Idly Podi/ Sambar ๐Ÿ˜‹. For chutney and Podi recipes, check links down below (procedure section)

Note:

  • Sometimes batter won’t ferment during winter/ too cold at home. So add baking soda in Idly batter at night and it works out well. This tip applies to Dosa Batter also
  • One more suggestion keep Idly batter bowl in warm place such as in oven / microwave.. so there are chances to ferment well
  • I always keep it in oven
