Side Dish: Red Cabbage Stir FryΒ

Any Indian meal contains Dal, curry, rice, roti and curd it’s so authentic and traditional to have a meal with different kind of curries.Β Curry is a side dish either wet/ dry prepared out of vegetables/ leafy vegetables.

Today, I prepared red cabbage stir fry which has Lovely color and texture. Red cabbage is also known as purple cabbage, you can call it either red/ purple cabbage. I Β  Β tried dishes with both regular and red cabbage and noticed a difference it is red cabbage cooks faster than regular cabbage.

I took around 7-8 minutes to cook red cabbage make sure it should contain some amount of nutrients at the end of process.Β If you could follow my process, it’s possible for you to make healthy side dish with red cabbage.

Ingredients:

  • Red Cabbage – 1/2 – 400 gms – finally chopped
  • Green chillies – 2
  • Fresh coconut – 1/2 cup
  • Salt – 1 1/2 tsp
  • Butter – 2 tb sp – Room temperature
  • Split yellow gram / Moong Dal – 2 tb sp – soaked – 15 mins
  • Coriander leaves – 1/2 cup – chopped – Garnish
  • Freshly grated coconut – 1/3 cup – Garnish

For Tempering:

  • Mustard seeds/ Avvalu – 1/2 tsp
  • Cumin seeds/ Jeera – 1 tsp
  • Urad dal/ Minapappu – 1 tb sp
  • Bengal gram/ Senagapappu – 1 tb sp
  • Curry leaves – 4 to 5

Procedure:

Pre-Preparation:Β Chilly, coconut paste:

  • Blend green chillies, fresh coconut in mixer & make fine paste ( don’t add water ). Keep it aside

Moong Dal:Β 

  • Add 2 tb sp moong Dal in a bowl
  • Wash twice and strain water
  • Add fresh water ( 100 ml ) and soak moong Dal for about 15 mins
  • Keep it aside

Process of Red Cabbage Stir Fry:

  • Heat skillet pan over medium heat
  • Add butter, let it melt
  • Next add tempering, curry leaves and grounded paste
  • Saute 30 secs and add chopped red cabbage
  • Saute a min and salt, cover it with a lid and cook 2 mins
  • Next add soaked moong Dal along with water, mix well and close with lid
  • Cook more 3 mins and turn off heat
  • Finally, add coconut and coriander leaves, mix well and cover with lid and leaves 2 mins.
  • Next serve it with Roti/ Rice

Note:

  • Adjust spices according to taste
  • You can follow the same process to regular cabbage, Carrot and beans. It tastes great πŸ‘
  • Instead of butter you can also add oil
