Salan means ” curry ” it’s a gravy curry and semi liquid consistency this is one of the most popular side dish for Vegetables Biryani in Hyderabad, India ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ

I clearly remember famous Biryani Center is Paradise Biryani in Hyderabad, India. They serve vegetable Dum Biryani with Mirchi ka Salan/ Onion Salan which enhances your Biryani to the next level.

Onion Salan is a gravy curry, it contains fried onions, peanuts, sesame seeds, coconut powder, tamarind pulp, spices and more

Today I prepared most popular and relishing Hyderabad – “Onion Salan” I hope you like it..

Let’s start with Ingredients and follows Procedure

Ingredients:

  • Onions – 2 – Medium – Slices
  • Peanuts – 80 gms
  • Sesame seeds – 30 gms
  • Dry coconut powder/ desiccated Coconut – 2 tb sp
  • Ginger- Garlic Paste – 1 tb sp
  • Tamarind extract – 2 tb sp – soaked in 400 ml water
  • Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
  • Red chilly powder – 2 tsp
  • Cumin powder – 1 tb sp
  • Coriander powder – 1 tb sp
  • Salt – 1/2 tb sp
  • Water – 1 ltr
  • Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves – 5 to 7
  • Oil – 40 ml

Procedure:

Step 1:

  • Dry roast peanuts, sesame seeds and desiccated powder till golden brown
  • Take out in a bowl & Let them become cool
  • Next blend them along with tamarind extract and water
  • Blend till smooth paste and keep aside

Step 2:

  • Heat skillet pan Add 1 tsp oil
  • Add sliced onions and fry till they turn slightly golden brown
  • Take out Onions and keep aside

Step 3:

  • Heat flat-bottomed frying pan over medium heat
  • Add oil and tempering
  • Add spices ( red chilly powder, salt, cumin powder, coriander powder, Garam Masala Powder, turmeric powder )
  • Blended paste
  • Stir occasionally and cook 15 mins
  • When it started boiling Add fried onions and adjust consistency by adding water
  • Cook more 10-12 mins till oil oozes out
  • Onion salan is ready to serve
  • Happy cooking & enjoy your day ๐Ÿ™‚
