Side dish : Menthi Akku Pachadi: South Indian recipe

Servings: 8-10

Any Indian meal contains Dal, curry, Chutney, pickle, rice, roti and curd it’s so authentic and traditional to have a meal with curries and it gives you so much satisfaction with happiness. All these curries which I was prepared are the same process following from many generations and learnt from others like grand-grand parents. It’s like a chain process and love to know more and more from them.

Curry is a side dish either wet/ dry prepared out of vegetables/ leafy vegetables. It should be cooked and make sure it contain some amount of nutrients in it for good health diet. You can dip roti in curry and eat, you feel the flavours of it really delicious πŸ˜‹

Chutneys is most important and common side dish in every South Indian lunch meal, it is combined with vegetables/ vegetable with lots of spices and ends with fresh spluttering tempering on it.. aww what a taste it’s amazing one has to try to know the taste of South Indian Chutney πŸ™‚

Let’s start with Ingredients and follows Procedure

Ingredients:

  • Fresh fenugreek leaves – Menthi Akku – 100 gms
  • Garlic cloves – pods – 2
  • Tamarind extract – 1/4 cup
  • Salt – 1/2 tb sp
  • Bengal gram – 60 gms
  • Urad Dal – 60 gms
  • Sesame seeds – 60 gms
  • Dry Red chillies – 3
  • Onion – 1 – small – chopped
  • Oil – 3 tb sp

For tempering:

  • Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
  • Asafoetida/ inguva – 1/4 tsp
  • Curry leaves – 4 to 5

Procedure:

Pre-Preparation:

  • Heat a skillet pan on medium heat
  • Dry Roast each ingredient separately ( urad Dal, Bengal gram, sesame seeds, fenugreek leaves)
  • Add 1 tsp oil and roast each ingredient separately ( onion, dry red chillies, garlic pods )
  • Let them become cool

Process of Menthi Akku Pachadi:

  • Add all roasted ingredients in mixer grinder
  • Add salt and tamarind extract in it.. blend till smooth paste add 1/2 cup of water ( 80 ml )
  • Heat skillet pan Add rest of the oil
  • Add tempering and saute
  • Add blended paste
  • Saute and cook 10-12 mins till it becomes thick and changes it’s color with nice aroma
  • Menthi Akku Pachadi ready to serve
  • Enjoy your day and Happy cooking πŸ₯—

Note:

  • Adjust spices according to taste
  • Perserves upto 7 days if you store in refrigerator
  • If you doesn’t get fenugreek leaves in your location, you can try with any other leafy vegetables such as mint/ spinach/ Gongura ( Roselle )
