Breakfast recipe: Masala Upma/ Khichdi

In any one’s home Easy and quick breakfast recipe is Upma, people who like Upma is very less but most of the people like Upma if it cooked with spices, Veggies which makes your Upma tasty & delicious πŸ˜‹

Upma is a kind of thick porridge which is smooth & easy to swallow especially for kids. It’s from south India which is prepared with semolina/ broken wheat/ Sooji / rava and also contains onion, tomato, green chillies etc.,

I made a tasty Upma that is masala khichdi which is a special dish in occasions or you can make when you got bore of eating normal Upma

Potato:

Minerals : calcium, iron, magnesium & potassium

Green Peas:

Minerals: Iron, magnesium & potassium

Today I prepared a simple and tasty dish for breakfast which is made out of semolina, spices and veggies

Let’s start with ingredients and follows Procedure

Ingredients:

Semolina – 1 cup – 235 gms

Water – 3 cups

Green chillies – sliced – 2

Clove – 1 piece

Cinnamon – 1 small piece

Ginger-garlic paste – 1 tsp

Onion – chopped – 1 cup

Carrots, beans, potato Β – chopped – 1 cup

Coriander leaves – 1/4 cup

peas – 1/2 cup

Mint leaves – 8

Salt – 1 1/2 tsp

Ghee – 1/4 cup

Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp

For Tempering:
Mustard seeds/ Avvalu – 1/4 tea spoon
Cumin seeds/ Jeera – 1/2 tea spoon
Urad dal/ Minapappu – 1/4 tea spoon
Bengal gram/ Senagapappu – 1/4 tea spoon
Curry leaves – 4 to 5

Procedure:

  • Heat skillet pan Add ghee over medium heat
  • Add tempering, cashew nuts, green chillies Saute them
  • Take out cashew nuts in a cup
  • Add onion, curry leaves & mint
  • Saute 1 min
  • Add chopped carrot & potato , ginger-garlic paste
  • Saute 2 mins
  • Add chopped beans & peas
  • Saute 2 mins
  • Add semolina & Saute 5 mins
  • Add salt & mix well
  • Add water & cook till it becomes non sticky & soft
  • Add coriander & mix well
  • Take out in a serving bowl & garnish with fried cashew nuts
  • Masala Upma / Khichdi is ready
  • Serve it hot with fresh coconut chutney/Β Coriander Coconut Chutney / Kothimeera Kobbari Chutney

  4. Upma is staple in my home but have never tried it using cloves,ginger or garlic..This sounds very interesting..Will surely try this..Loved it !!
