Simple & quick easy recipe : Masala Chaas

Chaas is often known as Buttermilk which is famous in North India and originated in India 🇮🇳
It is made with curd/ Yogurt / Dahi is the main ingredient and also added mint, coriander etc.,
You can have it at anytime in a day, it’s good for health. They are many ways to prepare Chaas but only varies the ingredients you adds in the buttermilk. It has protein content.
If you are using mint it’s mint Chaas, if you’re using cumin powder it’s jeera Chaas, if you’re using pepper & asafoetida it’s Pepper Chaas like it can be prepared different by region and of coarse cuisine

Today, I prepared Masala Chaas which contains mint, coriander leaves, cumin & etc.,
Let’s start with ingredients and follows Procedure
Ingredients:
Fresh Homemade yogurt/ curd – 120 ml
Water – 500 ml
Mint leaves – 7 to 8
Coriander leaves – 1/4 cup – 60 gms
Green chilly – one ( small )
Ginger – 1 inch piece – 1 tb sp
Cumin/ Jeera powder – 1/2 tsp
Salt – 1 tsp
Things required:
Mixer Grinder, Filter and Juicer
Procedure:
- Take a small mixer grinder
- Add green chilly, ginger pieces, salt, cumin powder, mint & coriander leaves
- Blend smooth paste
- Take Juicer
- Add above blended paste, curd & water
- Blend 30 secs
- Fliter it and pour in glasses
- Sprinkle cumin powder on Masala Chaas/ Buttermilk
- Masala Chaas is ready
- Enjoy your day & happy cooking 😊
Note:
- If you don’t have curd at home, Buy Greek plain yogurt in stores. It’s easily available
- If you want to make curd at home boil milk and cool 5 mins. Next add green chilly / dry red chilly in it and close it . Keep it in a warm place and check after 8 to 10 hours
- Repeat the process for two times for best results you can make best yogurt at home
- Masala Chaas can be store in refrigerator for 6 hrs / you can take this in trekking/ on road trip. It will be best upto 4 hrs in journey.
- If you don’t like spicy avoid green chilly in it.

Hey in your notes you have written to make curd.. Boil it and add green chilli/red chilli to it and cover. Is that by mistake or that’s how it’s supposed to be?

Hi I haven’t written by mistake you can make curd at home, you should repeat the process to make perfect curd. I mentioned clearly in notes. Thanks for stopping by

I wanted to know how does the chilli help the curd to set. You have mentioned to add green chilli to the milk to prepare curd

Actually It’s an old tip you should use either green chillies or dry Red chillies with stalk. I don’t know exact process /science hidden in it but it works out.
