Indian snack recipe: Ajwain Sev/ Vamu Karallu

Ajwain is an annual herb originated in India as it’s used in dishes, spices and also for health purpose.

Ajwain nutrition facts:

It contains only minerals such as protein, sodium and a dietary fiber with less cholesterol and good saturated fat.

Today in my recipe I used main ingredient Ajwain/ Carom seeds with besan/ Bengal gram by adding salt,turmeric and baking soda

Let’s start with Ingredients and follows Procedure


Besan / Bengal gram – 1 bowl

Carom seeds/ Ajwain – coarse – 1 tb sp

Pepper corns – coarse – 1/2 tb sp

Baking soda – 1/4 teaspoon

Salt – as per taste

Oil – to deep fry

Mukrukullu Maker/ stainless steel Kara maker


  • First make a coarse Powder of Ajwain and pepper corns keep it aside
  • In a medium sized bowl add besan, Ajwain/ carom seeds, pepper corns Powder, turmeric powder, baking soda and salt
  • Add water little by little and make thick dough. It should be lump and must not be pouring consistency
  • Apply oil inside Murukullu maker / stainless steel Kara maker. Put 3 hole small plate inside of it
  • Put dough in maker and drop dough in hot oil round shape as shown in picture. Be careful while doing this process
  • Cook both sides and take out Ajwain sev when it become slightly color changed.
  • Repeat the same process till the dough completes
  • Keep all Ajwain sev in a plate
  • Break them gently by using hands
  • Ajwain sev is ready to serve
  • Evening snack for kids/ adults / everyone at home 🏑
  • Enjoy sev with Dal / sambar rice / Rasam / as a snack
