Rasam is a famous dish which frequently prepared in south India. Β It’s very easy and quick recipe and best combination with hot rice & papad.

As there are few types of rasam depends on cuisine, I prepared tomato pepper rasam/ Miriyala rasam which is good for health and improves the digestion system, fights with anti bacterial contents.

When you prefer to have South Indian Thali in Indian restaurants. Rasam must be one dish in it.

Today, I prepared Miriyala rasam which contains tomato πŸ…, pepper powder, garlictempering and salt.

Let’s start with Ingredients and follows Procedure

Ingredients:

Chopped tomato πŸ…Β – 1 cup

Coarse Pepper Powder – 1 teaspoon

Jaggery Powder – 1 teaspoon

Cumin seeds – 1/2 teaspoon

Garlic cloves – finely chopped – 4

Curry leaves – 4

Oil – 1 teaspoon

Salt – as per taste

Procedure:

Tempering:

  1. Heat tempering pan on low to medium heat
  2. Add oil
  3. Add chopped garlic let it fry
  4. When color started changing add cumin seeds, curry leaves , dry Red chilly
  5. Let them splutter
  6. Add pepper powder and saute
  7. Take out in a cup
  8. Now add chopped tomato πŸ…Β in same pan
  9. Saute and cook 2 mins till it becomes mashy ( or you can use tomato puree/ instead of tomatoes you can use tamarind extract or pulp)
  10. Take out in a cup
  11. Next add 2 cups water in a deep pan/ bowl and put on low to medium heat
  12. Add garlic tempering in it and mix well
  13. Add jaggery powder, salt & mix well
  14. Add mashy tomato in it
  15. Let it boil for 3 mins and stir in between
  16. Check the taste of Rasam.Β 
  17. If required add salt and pepper. It’s completely optional
  18. When water started boiling keep it in low heat
  19. Add again cook for 2 mins
  20. Add coriander and mix well
  21. Dish out in a serving bowl
  22. Tomato Pepper Rasam is ready
  23. Lunch recipe: combination is Rice 🍚
