Sago/ Sabudana/ Saggubiyyam Khichidi

Easy & Quick Breakfast/ Snack Recipe: Western India

Sago is extracted from various palm stems. It is typically prepared in western India such as Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Rajasthan.

It’s is used to have when fasting in vrat. Mostly followed by western India.

This is one type of street food in Mumbai,Pune, Bhopal, Jaipur and Nagpur.

Today, I used sago for breakfast recipe.It’s delicious and easy to prepare

Let’s Start with Ingredients and Procedure


Sago/ Sabudana/ Saggubiyyam – 1/2 cup (120 gms)

Raw potato πŸ₯”Β – 1 medium size – diced – 1 cup

Green chillies – 3 – finely chopped

Cumin seeds – 1 teaspoon

Curry leaves – 4 to 5

Coriander leaves – 2 tb sp

Roasted peanut powder – 1 cup

Roasted peanuts – 1/4 cup

Ghee – 1 tb sp


  • Wash sago twice and soak in 60 ml of water for 6 hrs
  • After 6 hrs sago pearls will become soft and spongy
  • Heat pan on medium to high
  • Add ghee ,cumin seeds, chopped green chillies and curry leaves
  • Add raw potato and cook for 5 mins till potato become mashy

‘ Instead of raw potato, You can also use boiled potato’

  • Add roasted peanut powder and saute
  • Add salt, roasted peanuts and saute
  • Add soaked sago/ sabudana and saute
  • Sprinkle one to two tb sp of water and toss pan
  • Add lemon juice and chopped coriander and saute
  • Close with lid and cook for 5 mins
  • Dish out in a bowl/ plate
  • Serve it hot as Breakfast/ snack
