Chapathi/ Roti

1 cup = 240 gms


Wheat flour – 1 cup

Oil – 2 tb sp

Salt – 1/2 tea spoon


  • In a big bowl add wheat flour, salt and oil mix it well then add water little by little not all at a time
  • Mix the dough and knead it for one to two minutes
  • Dough should be elastic and non sticky
  • Rest it 20 mins by covering the dough with wet cloth or with lid
  • SoΒ that the chapathi/ Roti will be soft and smooth
  • Now take out the dough and knead again
  • Divide the dough into 4 to 5 parts or u can make less to make bigger ones
  • Make round balls and add wheat flour for dusting
  • First take one of it and make 5 inch of chapathi by using rolling pin
  • Second roll it and make a round again
  • Third press gently with hand and dust the flour to make chapathi by moving the rolling pin upwards, downwards and edges
  • You can make chapathi by using roti maker/ roller/ On granite tile
  • Here, I prepared chapathi on granite tile by using rolling pin
  • Take the rolled chapathi carefully and put it on medium heated tawa and press gently with a piece of cloth
  • Let it heat for few seconds flip the chapathi when bubbles appear
  • Now apply oil or ghee on it and the other side too
  • Remove the chapathi when it cooked with brown dots all over it
  • Serve it in a plate with curries/ Menthi Akku Pappu/ Menthi dal tadka/ Fenugreek leaves dalΒ / kadai gobi or any of your favorite curry
  • Here, I served it with Cluster beans curry/ Goruchikkudu Curry/ Guar-ki-Phalli Curry

  1. I love Indian food, my favourite is butter chicken with garlic naan.. Do u have a recipe for garlic naan?…and I hope it can be prepared on a stove hehe

      It is good to know you love Indian food. I’m vegetarian so I doesn’t prepare any non-vegetarian food. I haven’t shared garlic naan soon I will post it in my upcoming recipes. Thank you for visiting my blog πŸ™‚
