Spicy Coconut Gunpowder/ Kobbari karam


Dry coconut powder – 1 cup

Dry red chillies – 3

Red chili powder – 1/2 tb sp

Garlic cloves – 3

Tamarind paste – 1 tea spoon

Jaggery powder – 1 tea spoon

Salt – 1 tea spoon

Oil – 1 tb sp

For Tempering:
Mustard seeds/ Avvalu – 1/4 tea spoon
Cumin seeds/ Jeera – 1/2 tea spoon
Urad dal/ Minapappu – 1/4 tea spoon
Bengal gram/ Senagapappu – 1/4 tea spoon
Curry leaves – 4 to 5
Oil – 1 tb sp


  • First take a tempering pan add oil, mustard seeds, Cumin seeds, Urad dal and Bengal gram stir till the color changes and splutter. Now add curry leaves and fried ground nuts and keep this aside
  • Now add dry red chillies, red chili powder, garlic cloves, salt, tamarind paste, jaggery powder in mixer grinder and make it smooth powder
  • In the same mixer grinder add dry coconut powder blend it well till coarse powder
  • Take out it into a bowl add tempering and mix well
  • Serve it with any kind of dry vegetable fries
  • You can add this Spicy Coconut Gunpowder/ Kobbari Karam to any fried curriesΒ Ivy Gourd fry/ Dondakaya fry/ Tindora fry
